A group billing itself as “Stop Line 3 Trainings” has published a schedule of protester training camps in April and May to teach tactics for blocking construction of the pipeline “to cost Enbridge time and money”. According to its perpetrators, the training will “cover several levels of blockades, police tactics used during a lock down, and roles that can be filled during an action”. Also included: “skills to live in and build aerial blockades. This includes basics on rope climbing, construction and rigging of tree sits, pod structures, rope physics, safety protocols, and so much more! These tactics might come in handy when it comes to stopping the earth destroying progress of pipeline construction.”

The first camp, scheduled for April 15, was cancelled after EEIA member Bob Schoneberger, Chairman of Duluth, MN based United Piping Inc. led a grassroots supply chain campaign to protest the camp’s use of a philanthropic and public money-supported organization’s meeting facilities. No doubt the “mole” will pop up elsewhere, but at least they are on notice that their ill-conceived objectives are not shared by responsible members of their community.
