Pipeline Companies Report Cyber-Attack
This week four US pipeline companies reported that they had their electronic systems for communicating with clients shut down within the past week, with three of them confirming this was the result of a cyber-attack on a shared data network. Affected companies included Oneok, Energy Transfer Partners, Boardwalk Pipeline Partners and Chesapeake Utilities Corporation’s Eastern Shore Natural Gas. The attacks follow a US government warning in March that Russian hackers were conducting an assault on the US electric grid and other targets. The US Department of Homeland Security acknowledged this week that it is gathering information about the incidents but had no further comment.
